Last week, an anonymous leaker took to Reddit to post information aboutThe Walking Dead,Tales From the Borderlands Redux, andThe Wolf Among Us 2. The leaker cited having sources at both Telltale Games and Skybound Games (as the latter had acquired The Walking Dead) and even provided semi-convincingevidence of theTales From the Borderlandsgamein the form of a unique achievements screenshot.

Given the screenshot and the seemingly nuanced bit of information provided, the leaker had more credibility than most. That is, untilSkybound Gamesstepped in after days of rumors to shut this down, thanking fans for their enthusiasm for Telltale’sTWDbut denying any plans for a Season 5 of the franchise.

According to the leaker, the game’s title hadn’t been fully decided but was currently operating asThe Walking Dead: A Fatal Frontier. It wouldn’t following typical Telltale structure, becoming more of asurvival horror game a laResident Eviland orThe Evil Within 2. The story would follow the events of the third season, putting players into the role of Javier again, and that’s where things get a bit strange.

Essentially, everyone from season 3 dies except for Javier in the fall of Richmond, and without anywhere else to go, Javier goes looking for Clementine. The game forcesKenny into the story, regardless of whether he is a live or dead in a players' game, effectively establishing a canon timeline of events. Javier and Kenny team up in their search for Clementine, while being hunted down by those who besieged Richmond.

The leaker even backed this up with a confident reveal date, statingThe Walking Dead: A Fatal Frontierwill be shown at the PC Game show on June 6 and will release on PC (as an EGS exclusive) and modern consoles. In short, the leaker who could have said nothing about a reveal date put a short leash on this rumor, well before Skybound Games stepped in.

To play Devil’s Advocate for a moment, though, this denial can easily be seen as a non-comment. First off, it notes enthusiasm for “Telltale’sTWD” and de-confirms “season 5.” Yet the leaker stated up front that this would not be season 5, with many just thinking of it as such since it is a continuance of the story. It’s not a Telltale structure according to this leak and therefore not really “Telltale’s TWD.”

Either way, it’s most likely that it’s a full denial, and the franchise is done and over.Clementine’s story is for sure, but without this continuance, many may be left wondering what became of Javier and Richmond, the strange but enrapturing introduced in A New Frontier.
