For players ofThe Witcher 3, making the right choice holds the utmost importance. The game presents many choices throughout their journey and asks players to make several decisions during their playthroughs. Fromwhich card to add to their Gwent deckto which ruler will rule over a particular territory, players will have the chance to shape the fate of the residents of theWitcherworld.

However, in some cases, no matter what players choose, the game will simply disregard it and advance the story. The dialogue option will present itself and players can certainly make the required actions for that particular choice, but the game will ignore it all and progress the story in a set way.
5Thaler Survives Earlier Encounter
During his journey, Geralt will meet Thaler and rescue him from a band of trolls. Thaler is a former Temerian spywho plays an important role in a later questduring which players get the chance to dispatch King Radovid. But this is not the first time Geralt meets him during the games, as he appears in the firstWitchergame.
Thaler asks for Geralt’s help in investigating a forgery and ends up in trouble when count Roderick de Wett confronts the Temerian spy using a forged document that relieves him of his services. Thaler refuses to do so and reveals that the document is forged as it lacks King Foltest’s signature.

Geralt can choose to help Thaler, side with de Wett, or do nothing at all. If players help Thaler then de Wett and his men are killed. However, if they side with de Wett or choose to do nothing, then Thaler dies.
If players import a save where Thaler did not survive the events of the first game intoThe Witcher 3, they will still find Thaler alive, as well asin captivity of the trolls. No matter what fate Geralt chooses for Thaler, he ends up surviving and making it to the third game.

4Triss Romance In Witcher 1
InThe Witcher1, players are presented with the opportunity to pursue a romance with the red-headed sorceress Triss Merigold. During one such moment, Geralt and Triss share a passionate embrace on the former’s bed at Kaer Morhen. Players also have the opportunity to notpursue a romance with Triss at alland either romance someone else or no one at all.

However, during the events ofThe Witcher 3, the game considers that Geralt and Triss indeed had a romantic scene on the former’s bed leading Yennefer to be angry and jealous. She ends up throwing the bed out of Kaer Morhen as the piece of furniture in question reminds her of the deed.
Regardless of the fact that players romanced Triss inThe Witcher1or not, the game considers that Geralt did romance her and carries it forward.

3Triss’ Rose Of Remembrance
During the events ofThe Witcher 2, Geralt and Triss come across a rose bush which the red-headed sorceress describes as Roses of Remembrance. She explains that if they are given to someone the giver loves, the rose lives forever. The choice is up to the players if theywant to give Triss the rose or not. Regardless of the players’ choice, they will find what’s left of the rose at Triss’ ransacked house in Novigrad. Even if they chose not to give Triss the rose, she would still have it.
Moreover, if players pick Iorveth’s path inThe Witcher 2, then Philippa Eilhart ends up with the rose and uses it in a potion to revive Saskia. The rose still ends up with Triss inThe Witcher 3in her house as the game completely disregards what players chose earlier.
2Vernon Roche’s Ending Is Disregarded
Vernon Roche plays an important role during the events ofThe Witcher 3. He is one of the main characters involved in the plot to assassinate the Redanian King Radovid and can play a major role in shaping the political outcome of the Continent afterward, depending on player choices.
Geralt’s association with him goes back toThe Witcher 2where he serves as one of the story paths players can take.
On Roche’s path, near the end of the game, players will be tasked with rescuing King Foltest’s daughter and bringing her to him. They will have a choice to do as ordered or go and rescue Triss Merigold instead, in which case Roche completes the task on his own.

However, if players go to rescue the childthey will be faced with a choice: they can either convince Roche to take the child away or do nothing. In the case of the latter, Roche takes the child to Radovid and even joins the Redanian forces, something Geralt does not like at all.
If players now import a save fromThe Witcher 2in which Roche joins Redanian forces, the game completely ignores the choice and puts Roche back in his Temerian armor.
1Saskia’s Fate
Saskia plays a crucial role during the events ofThe Witcher 2. She will be leading the revolt in Upper Aedirn and opposes King Henselt’s efforts to invade the disputed area. She has a bigger role in the story if players pick Iorveth’s path over Roche’s as Geralt has to find a cure for a poison that she drinks.
However, she is completely forgotten inThe Witcher 3and is only referencedin an unmarked side questand is only mentioned in passing in a conversation with Phillipa Eilhart. In fact, the only informationThe Witcher 3takes fromThe Witcher 2save is whether she is alive or not by the end of the game.
DuringThe Witcher 2, Geralt also cures Saskia’s curse and turns her into a human. Doing so requires using a magical dagger belonging to Phillipa Eilhart after which her curse is lifted. ButThe Witcher 3completely disregards such a significant decision and pretends that Geralt did not go through the trouble of lifting Saskia’s curse. Instead, it passes it off that someone else attempted to lift her curse with Geralt not knowing the outcome.
The Witcher 3: Wild Huntis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
