Ashley Edward Miller, who has previously worked on projects likeX-Men: First Class, ThorandTerminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, has been brought on board as the showrunner and executive producer. She describesDOTA: Dragon’s Bloodas “an epic, emotional, and adult-oriented story” that will highlight some of theplayers’ favorite characters. Animation for the show has been done by Studio MIR, the South Korean company that also brought together Netflix’sVoltron: Legendary DefenderandThe Legend of Korra.
DOTA 2 could work as a good choice to convert into a series as it happens to be one of the leading online games in the world. The game not only hosts millions of players every month, but it is also famous for its annual e-sports tournament, The International, which usuallyconsists of large prize earnings.
Valve originally released the game in 2013 as a follow-up to Defense of the Ancients (DotA), a multiplayer online battle arena mod for Blizzard’sWarcraft III: Reign of Chaos. It isn’t the only game that has been picked up for an adaptation by Netflix. Other games have already been turned into a TV series. Some of the most popular ones include CD Projekt Red’sThe Witcherseries, which is currentlyproducing its second season, and Konami’sCastlevania, which has beenrenewed for a fourth season. And that’s not all. Netflix is currently working onat least eight other projectsthat involve video game adaptations, with the most recent announcement beingabout Ubisoft’sAssassin’s Creed.
