The originalSanta Clausefilm trilogy starring Tim Allen makes up some of the most beloved and recognizable holiday movies today. However, the series has not received a new film since 2006 with the release ofThe Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause. Now, the franchise will be coming back to families around the world, as a newTheSanta Clauseseries with Tim Allen and hisLast Man Standingteam is in the works forDisney Plus.
Allen broke out in the 1990s for his leading role inHome Improvementand is most famous for his recurring voice role asToy Story’s Buzz Lightyear. He has worked extensively with Disney and other Hollywood studios, as the comedian has also starred in films likeThe Shaggy Dog,Christmas With The Kranks, andGalaxy Quest. Allen’s modern sitcomLast Man Standingran on ABC (and later on FOX) for nine seasons before ending last year.

TheSanta Clauseoriginal limited series by 20th Television will be executive produced byLast Man Standingcreator Jack Burditt, as well as writer Kevin Hench and Tim Allen’s managers, Richard Baker and Rick Messina. The series will follow Allen’s character Scott Calvin as he realizes he’s beginning to"lose his step" as Santa Clausand begins searching for a suitable replacement, all while he prepares his family for life outside the North Pole. The series has not been given a release date at this time, nor have any other cast members (new or returning) been announced.
The Santa Clausewon’t be the only series coming soon to Disney Plus. More superhero series by Marvel Studios such asMs. Marvel,Moon Knight, andSecret Invasionwill be released, as well asStar Warsseries likeAndorandObi-Wan Kenobi. In addition, Disney is working on a slew of animated series includingBaymax,Cars on the Road, and Pixar’sWin or Lose, and Lucasfilm is working on aseries based on the 1988 fantasy filmWillow.
The Santa Clausewill be an exciting new addition to a slate of Holiday projects from Disney that includesThe Nightmare Before Christmas,Noelle, andHome Sweet Home Alone. It will also be exciting for audiences to see Allen working with Disney again for the first time since voicing Buzz Lightyear inToy Story 4. Here’s hopingThe Santa Clausecan provide Christmas spirit to audiences of all ages when it releases in the near future.
