Sports fans are a superstitious bunch. When a certain behavior or thing works, they do everything in their power to replicate the “good luck.” But when things go bad, they latch on to that thought and do the opposite. Even things seemingly innocuous as a certain playershowing up on the ESPN Manningcastdays before a loss or injury, fans latch onto that and don’t forget. So when TimtheTatman picked the Los Angeles Rams to win Super Bowl 56, fans thought it would lead to a bad omen.
There is a history behind TimtheTatman’s jinx. At the start of the 2021-22 NFL Season, TimTheTatman, an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, prematurely celebrated a win against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before Tom Terrific led an amazing game-winning drive with 7 seconds left, crushing Tim’s hopes and becoming a mockery on social media thanks toESPN grabbing the screenshot.

Fast-forward to the NFL Playoffs, TimtheTatman has unsuccessfully picked every team leading up to the Super Bowl. His Cowboys lost in the first round. He tweeted, “Can’t wait to see the (San Francisco) 49ers get destroyed by the (Green Bay) Packers.” Packers lost in a defensive standoff 13-10. He tries to mock his jinx moniker and picked the Buccaneers to beat the Rams and Buffalo Bills to beat the Kansas City Chiefs. Both of those games went the opposite of his picks, with the Bucs' loss beingthe final game of Tom Brady’s career.
He attempted to shake off the jinx again for the conference championship games as he picks the 49ers (who he also tapped as his Super Bowl favorites) and the Chiefs to win. Of course, both those teams lose. The Chiefs' loss is especially tough because they were ahead 17-7 when Tim once again mocked his jinx status before the Chiefs fell to the Bengals 24-21 in a controversial Overtime loss. It was so bad, he attempted to enlist help from another infamous celebrity sports jinx, Drake.
A week before Super Bowl 56, TimtheTatman has one last chance to get a prediction right. His choices are between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Rams. He chooses the Los Angeles Rams. Fans joined in on piling on to his jinx status, sure that once again, Tim will be eating social media crow from dooming another team.
It was a close call, as the Rams were down late in the 4th Quarter, but a late drive by Rams Quarterback Matthew Stafford ended in a touchdown, followed by a game-sealing sack by Rams Defensive End Aaron Donald secured the 23-20 win for the LA Rams and TimtheTatman.
TimtheTatman is a good sport about the whole jinx ordeal. He’s not a stranger of things not going his way as he memorably went ages at the height of theFall Guyshype without claiming a crown. It was a much-watched and joked event until the streamer finally got one andESPN decided to make a documentary on the ordeal. In the end, it all works out for Tim, but everyone else will get their jokes off about it first. Let’s see if the jinx is a one-off reprieve or the curse is finally broken.
