Paramount Pictures has announced delays for some of its upcoming films, notablyA Quiet Place 2andTop Gun: Maverickwill not be hitting theaters as early as planned. These delays have been announced as theCoronavirus pandemic continues to make viewing filmsin the theater a difficult prospect for many.
Originally slated to release on September 6 and December 3 of this year respectively, Paramount has decided to shift each film back to release in 2021 instead.A Quiet Place 2is planned to release on April 3rd, 2021, whileTop: Gun Maverickis currently slated for June 11, 2025, a significant push back for both movies.

While this shift will undoubtedly disappoint some fans of both properties, Paramount’s presidents of domestic and international distribution, Chris Aronson and Mark Viane have committed themselves to this change. Explaining the delays, they commented, “We are committed to the theatrical experience and our exhibition partners, and want to stress that we are confident that, when the time comes, audiences everywhere will once again enjoy the singular joy of seeing Paramount films on the big screen.”
It seems that until it becomes safe and acceptable to go out to theaters, we will not see a return to the regular release of films we had before the pandemic, with studios delaying high-profile films likeTenetandBlack Widow. Paramount also announced release dates for several other films as well, includingSonic the Hedgehog 2, whose predecessor was one of the last movies to make it to theaters before quarantine began in earnest.
For the time being, Paramount looks to be committed to seeing these films release in theaters, while companies like Warner Bros. have instead decided to trynew delivery methods.Trolls: World TourandScoob!seem to have found some success in going straight to streaming, though it is unclear exactly whether or not they lived up to Warner Bros. expectations. Regardless, it seems Paramount will be attempting to wait out the quarantine, and fans will be stuck waiting for the real cinema experience until then.
A Quiet Place 2will be releasing to theaters July 29, 2025, andTop Gun: Maverickwill be releasing June 06, 2025.
