TheWorld of Warcraftstory has always been defined by two major political factions fighting for survival on a hostile world. On one side of the ocean sits the Horde, a collection of different races who just want to survive against a world that wants to see them destroyed. On the other side lives the Alliance, a proud group of races that want to uphold honor and justice across Azeroth. This group of races have gone through much strife over the years, and their struggles are far from over. They wish to preserve order across Azeroth and create a peaceful society where they can thrive, and they will do whatever they can to achieve that.

Currently, the Alliance inWorld of Warcraftis made up many distinct cultures. The members of the Alliance are the Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Worgen, Pandaren, Void Elves, Lightforged Draenei, Dark Iron Dwarves, Kul’Tiran, and Mechagnomes. However, it was not always this way, and there was a time when the Alliance was simply a creation of necessity as the Orcish Horde brought a wave of destruction across Azeroth. The story of the Alliance begins during this turbulent time when the residents of Azeroth needed to try whatever they could to beat back the encroaching invaders.

The Alliance of Lordaeron

AfterStormwind fell to the Hordeduring the First War, the survivors fled to the kingdom of Lordaeron. Regent Lord Anduin Lothar pleaded with the other human kingdoms to band together against this new foe, and they all agreed. The Wildhammer Dwarves, High Elves, Gnomes, and Ironforge Dwarves would also end up joining this growing Alliance as the Horde pressed on. Anduin Lothar took the reins of this brand-new faction and pushed back against the Horde during the Second War. He ended up losing his life to Warchief Orgrim Doomhammer, but the Alliance would be victorious, putting a stop to the Old Horde.

King Terenas Menethil II would take up command of the growing Alliance, but his time as ruler would put the Alliance in peril. Due to many decisions made by the new king, the Alliance lost Quel’Thalas, Gilneas, and Stormgarde as members. The Orcs liberated themselves under the leadership of Thrall, and a plague of death began spreading through Lordaeron.Prince Arthas Menethil took up the taskof dealing with this Scourge, and that would ultimately prove to be the Alliance of Lordaeron’s undoing.

The Alliance After the Fall of Lordaeron

Prince Arthas Menethil would march into his father’s throne room and slay him where he stood. He went on to destroy Lordaeron and raise many of its residents as undead, and then he would pave apath of destruction through Azeroth. The Alliance still played a role in the Third War, but their power was significantly reduced. They lost their capital, much of their members, and their leader to Arthas' onslaught. His path of destruction would eventually be stopped, but much of the Alliance was shattered because of it.

The Alliance went on tomake Stormwind City their capital, and they quickly gained back many allies. The Ironforge Dwarves joined forces with the Humans of Stormwind, and the Gnomes would follow suit as they took refuge in the city of Ironforge. The Night Elves eventually joined the Alliance as well since the Orcs quickly became their enemy. The Alliance would also go on to recruit the Draenei to their cause after they crash-landed on Azeroth, and older members like Gilneas would return.

This new Alliance quickly became a powerful faction on Azeroth. The races grew a strong bond with one another and worked together towards a shared goal. Together, the races of the Alliance have been prepared to face every challenge that has come their way and their commitment to one another has only grown. The future of the Alliance is uncertain, especially since they may have lost their latest king, but they will no doubt be ready for whatever the world wants to throw at them next.
