Tom Olsen’s newest tweet contains a static-covered video of a first-person look at some familiar locations fromMetal Gear Solid 2. The video does now show very much other than a character slowly walking around the environments, but the video is also accompanied by cryptic language that may include more hidden clues for fans. The account has begun building a sizable following ofMetal Gearfans that are more than happy to play along. For fans, it also serves as a sign of hope forMetal Gear, as some were growing concerned for the series after theMetal Gear Solidboard game was unceremoniously canceled.
It is unclear exactly what sort of announcement the account is building toward. Many fans have been hoping for an announcement that a new studio will start developing games for the series. However, the footage in the tweets looks to be from older titles, and with the recentleak that severalMetal Gear Solidremakes are in developmentthat seems much more likely. Some fans responding to the tweets have theorized that the first-person perspective of the footage and floaty movement could be indications of a VR remake ofMetal Gear Solid 2, which has received mixed reactions.
Whatever the Tom Olsen account is building toward, it is good thatMetal Gear Solidfans should have something to look forward to. While the marketing technique is a bit unorthodox, the games have likely not been abandoned, as it would be a shame for a series with as much of amassive impact on the games industry asMetal Gear Solidto simply disappear. Hopefully, fans will not have to wait much longer to see exactly what Tom Olsen is talking about.
