PS Pluswasted no time and kicked off the year with excellent additions to the Essential Tier, further complemented bygreat games for the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers. However, this may just be the beginning of a great few months for PS Plus. While it may seem like we’re getting ahead of ourselves, PS Plus is expected to announce the PS Plus Essential games for March 2024 on February 28, and that may be when Sony fully kicks the service into overdrive. Of course, there’s a whole month before then and what February adds remains to be seen, but between what January adds and what March could add, it’s clear fans are eating well.
ThePS Plus free games for January 2024areA Plague Tale: Requiem, Evil West, andNobody Saves the World. Each game is a solid addition in its own right, while letting the award-winning action-adventure gamePlague Tale: Requiemstill shine.Evil Westis an over-the-top action supernatural and weird west-type game that is a lot of fun, while the shapeshifting “Nobody” ofNobody Saves the Worldis more than compelling enough to adventure through each dungeon.
Of course, PS Plus didn’t end there in January. The PS Plus Extra games include top-notch titles likeResident Evil 2, Just Cause 3, andTiny Tina’s Wonderlands: Next-Level Edition, among many others.PS Plus Premium includes several nostalgia-filled titles:Legend of Mana, Rally Cross, Secret of Mana, Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, andStreet Fighter: 30th Anniversary Collection. But all of these may still not hold a candle to the February 28 announcement.
The Best PS Plus Games of March
Barring any unusual delay, Sony will announce the PS Plus free games for March 2024 on February 28. It’s entirely likely that PS Plus Extra and Premium meet the high bar set for the Essential games in March. For the uninitiated, Sony tends to add some of its best games on the service in March. Whether that’s intentional, coincidental, or entirely circumstantial is hard to say, but none of the aforementioned games really hit the same high marks asBloodborneandFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, both of which were added to PS Plus in March 2018 and 2021, respectively.
Some of these months added multiple games, and not all of them high those same high marks. But beyondBloodborneandFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, fans were treated togames likeRatchet and Clank, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, The Witness, Shadow of the Colossus, Remnant, Ghostrunner, and more. It set a high precedent for the month over these five years, one worth noting that March 2023 dropped the ball on.
ThePS Plus free games for March 2023 are the exceptionto the rule; they wereBattlefield 2042, Code Vein, andMinecraft Dungeons. Battlefield 2042would be a better game than it was at launch, but it still had a long way to go.Code Veinis solid, but not the best game of the year territory. The same could be said forMinecraft Dungeons. This puts March 2024 at a crossroads: does it signal the end of March’s run as the best month for PS Plus, or does it ensure that March 2023 remains an exception to the rule?
PS Plus Free Games for March 2024 Have to Take Back Their Crown
Ultimately, it’s impossible to predict what Sony will add in March 2024, but there’s reason to believe it could be a big month. February 28 would kick that off with the PS Plus Essential Tier announcement, and if those titles hit those same high marks, it would go a long way in ensuring the month is memorable. WhilePS Plus Extra gamesare typically a bit better than the Essential Tier, that may not be the case here.
And if it were, that would likely cementPS Plus' games for March 2024 as the best month of the year, despite whatever comes later.
