Summary

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguehas no shortage of valid criticisms and glaring issues, but it’s also not without its fair share of good qualities. From its intuitive and engaging traversal mechanics to its addictive shooting gameplay,Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguehas plenty of hooks that’ll sink themselves into fans, and that’s not even mentioning the game’s narrative or characters.

As should be expected from a studio renowned for its single-player narratives, Rocksteady has delivered another compelling DC story withSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Though it isn’t without its many controversies,Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s storyremains engaging throughout its entire 10–15 hour runtime, and a major contributing factor to that is the game’s colorful cast of iconic characters. And while King Shark, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang all take center stage, it’s characters like Amanda Waller that end up stealing the show.

Debra Wilson Plays the Perfect Amanda Waller

First appearing in the comics in 1987 as part of the brief DCLegendscrossover event, Amanda Waller has been a staple of the Suicide Squad ever since. Essentially acting asTask Force X’s Nick Fury, albeit a much more ruthless one, Amanda Waller usually takes on a leadership role in the Suicide Squad, being the one pulling all of the bomb-armed strings. Though Amanda Waller’s personality and motivations have changed slightly between iterations, the character is almost always portrayed as a stoic leader, but one capable of committing some truly atrocious acts at the drop of a hat.

There have been quite a few different portrayals of Amanda Waller over the years, in DC TV shows, movies, and video games. The most recent, and by far the most high-profile portrayal of Amanda Waller came from2016’sSuicide Squadand its soft-reboot-sequelThe Suicide Squad, where Viola Davis plays the no-nonsense government agent. Viola Davis does an incredible job of breathing live-action life into Amanda Waller, but she isn’t given too much to work with, which leads to her character feeling a little half-baked.

Debra Wilson, however, gets more than enough time to shine inSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, delivering a performance that sets a new gold standard for the character inall DC media. While Wilson’s Amanda Waller beginsSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueas the same old shadowy, stoic military figure that fans are more than used to seeing now, the performance gets increasingly more complex as the game goes on. As Metropolis continues to fall deeper into chaos, Amanda Waller continues to get a little unhinged.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueisn’t the first time Debra Wilson has played Amanda Waller. Wilson first played Waller in 2017’sBatman: The Enemy Within, and more recently in the animatedMy Adventures with Superman.

Eventually, this culminates in an incredibly intense cutscene at LexCorp where Amanda—covered in blood and human viscera—sets about destroying Lex Luthor’s lab in an uncontrollable fit of rage. In this moment, Amanda Waller seems just as unhinged asthe rest of Task Force X, and that’s not something that fans always get to see from the character.

This slightly unhinged version of Waller then carries through to the remainder of the game. With her stoic facade now well and truly gone, Waller now wastes no time disguising threats with wordplay, but instead directly threatens each member of the Suicide Squad, often in some pretty descriptive ways.
