Pointed Scales are one of the many materials players will use to build all sorts of Weapons and Armor to fight the Kemono inWild Hearts. Granted, since it’s an item that’s dropped by the smaller Kemono, it’s not used in a ton of different items.

But, these Scales are part of enough of them that many players (beginner and pro) seem to be wondering where to get them and the best place to farm them inWild Hearts,as they are for a bunch ofother materials as well. So, let’s go over both at length.

Figuring Out Where Different Materials Are Found

As anyone familiar with any monster hunting-type game orMonster Hunter(the actual game series) will know, the in-game codexes are a treasure trove of useful information. And, inWild Hearts, this is also very true, as its in-game codex can answeralmost any burning questiona player has.

The Cyclopedia Tells All

First off, allWild Heartsplayers need to do to figure out wheremost of the items in the game can be found in the Cyclopediatab of the pause menu (the one furthest to the right).

This iswhere all information on Kemono, Small Kemono, and Creatures is found, including their item drops, weaknesses, what are of each map they’re found in, and some general info.

For Giant Kemono, players only need to encounter them for the Cyclopedia to automatically update with most of their relevant information. And, for Small Kemono, encountering them lets players know what they can obtain from Petting or Slaying them.

A Real-Time Wildlife Map

Not only that, but players also have the map at their disposal, which, once they explore an area for the first time, will then update using the filters at the bottom left, with locations forKarakuri, Small Kemono, Creatures, andMaterials.

What Actually Drops Pointed Scales

Moving on to the actual information most players are here for, where arePointed Scalesfound? Well, most reliably, they’re dropped by Shardshower Monitor lizards found in the Fuyufusagi Fort map subsection.

This snowy region has a good amount of Shardshower lizards spread out amongst it, butthe most reliable spawnsseem to beon the second floorofthe Derelict Castlewhere hunters will often encounter theDeathstalkerwolf.

To get there, players just need to climb the tower however they see fit until they reach an area that will be labeled’Gloomy Tower'(if it says’Doeful Upper Keep', then they’re close). In this large open room covered in ice, players should often see three of these Shardshower Monitors on the end of the room that leads to a small outer area.

There are plenty of other places to find these lizards, and players can always check them on the map, but there’s anAncient Tree Welljust above this room that’s perfect to set a Camp up at, so it’s a location very close toa Fast Travel point anyway.

Alternate Option For Pointed Scales

Now, for players who haven’t quite reached theFuyufusagi Fortpart ofChapter 2yet, there is another option forPointed Scalesthat’s a bit earlier, but not by much. Another type of lizard that has a ‘chance’ of dropping these scales is theNightshade Monitors, a poisonous/toxic variant of this lizard species that are found in the region right beforeFuyufusagi FortcalledAkikure Canyon.

The only caveat, however, is thatit seems to only drop when they’re killed in areas they’re currently ‘hunting’ other creatures in.Basically, if a player kills one and it gives a Lizard Bloom instead of aPointed Scale, try a different Nightshade in a different area.

And those are the two main resources forPointed Scales.Essentially, until players are a few story missions into Chapter 2, there’s no way for them to obtainPointed Scales.
