Summary

World of Warcraftgame director Ion Hazzikostas confirmed there were still three content updates planned forDragonflightleading up toThe War Within. With roughly eight weeks planned between each patch,World of Warcraftplayers have a solid guess as to when the next expansion will be released.

During BlizzCon,World of Warcraftrevealed the next three expansions:The War Within,Midnight, andThe Last Titan. However,World of Warcraftwas certain to clarify that, in spite of the exciting future ahead of it,Dragonflightstill had plenty of stories to tell, including Patch 10.2, Guardians of the Dream, which was released a few days after the convention ended.

Hazzikostas recently revealed more details about Dragonflight’s future inan interview with Forbes aboutWorld of Warcraft. He claimedWorld of Warcraftintended to continue itsDragonflightpatch cadence moving forward, and that fans could expect a new update roughly every eight weeks, holidays notwithstanding. What’s more,World of Warcraftplayerscan expect three more content updates inDragonflight, containing new story updates, world events, features, and revamped raiding reminiscent of the Fated raids inShadowlands.

With this intended 8-week gap between patches in mind, players can get a rough idea when these updates–andWorld of Warcraft: The War Withinitself–might be scheduled for release next year:

These release dates are purely speculative, based onWorld of Warcraft’s previous release cadence and Hazzikostas’ words. It is entirely possible other factors–such asFinal Fantasy 14’s upcomingDawntrailexpansionslated for release next summer as well–could push release dates forward or backward by weeks or even months.

That said, this schedule would make a lot of sense with whatWorld of Warcrafthas said recently.Dragonflightlaunched in late November 2022, so a July release would put about 20 months between the expansions, rather than the typical two-year period it and other MMOs usually shoot for.World of Warcraftcreative director Chris Metzenalso said the expansions in the Worldsoul Saga might be coming faster than players would expect, and shaving off a quarter or more between major releases would certainly fit that criteria. Either way, it seems fans are going to have plenty ofWorld of Warcraftto enjoy over the next year.
