World of Warcrafthas always been good when it came to integrating new features into old content, and Nefarian in Blackwing Lair has quite a few choice words for his father’s recently-awoken experiments. The Dracthyr and Deathwing are inextricably linked, and they have had to reconcile the evil deeds of their sire and general against the memory of Neltharion they were holding onto. ThoughDracthyr can only be Evokers inDragonflight, Blizzard still wanted to verify that this new race and class could interact with the older parts of the game as seamlessly as any other.
To that end, the developers creatednew anima powers for the Evoker in Torghast, and though a fair bit of quest text fails to recognize the Evoker class starting with a vowel, Blizzard has done more than a decent job in making the Dracthyr a worthy addition to the overall tapestry of races and classes inWorld of Warcraft. Most amusingly, though the Dracthyr can only receive non-tier pieces from old raids, Nefarian in Blackwing Lair still has a unique encounter with them.

Much like with other classes, he calls out the Evokers during his encounter as the final boss of Blackwing Lair, insulting the Dracthyr for being whelps abandoned by their father. This verbal attack is accompanied by a debuff that literally transforms the player into a whelp, lowering their damage and healing by 100% for 20 seconds. The incident was spotted by Maximilian Bane on their Evoker, who shared it with theWorld of Warcraftcommunity on Reddit.
Though the Dracthyr Evokers have no doubt exploded in popularity after they were made available on November 15th, there is one point of contention that players are still sore about – the old Soar speed. Though it may have been folly to expect that 930% flying speed would have made it to launch, it made farmingold raids inWorld of Warcraftand traversing old zones especially exciting and convenient in an unprecedented way. On one hand, players might argue that it gave Dracthyr an unfair advantage compared to other races – but on the other hand, the lack of any tier sets on top of being a mail-wearer restrict Dracthyr Evokers from truly benefiting in transmogrification farming.
WithDragonflightreleasing in a week, Blizzard Entertainment is setting the stage for the launch of the new expansion, having concluded a stress test on the beta yesterday. Though there is a lot of optimism for World of Warcraft fans thatDragonflightcan right the ship after the shortcomings ofShadowlandsandBattle for Azeroth, players will find out for themselves once the doors to the Dragon Isles open on November 28th.
