Few games are as nostalgic asWorld of Warcraft, and a great way for players to relive those halcyon days in Elwynn Forest is to see it recreated in another game entirely. Developed by Iron Gate Studio,Valheimis an upcoming survival game that allows players to design their encampments using an extremely robust and modular building system.Valheimreleased for Early Access on Steam in February 2021, and on Xbox in March 2023. Since then, the game has garnered glowing reviews and widespread praise, with many players comparing it to othersurvival games such asMinecraftorTerraria.
While the worlds inValheimare procedurally generated from a seed, players can dramatically terraform their surroundings to fit the idea they had in mind. Recreating Goldshire inValheimis certainly an ambitious undertaking, and fully utilizedValheim’s Creative Mode (as well as other developer commands) to make the most out of the game’s building tools.

ThisiconicWorld of Warcraftzonewas ported intoValheimby stockkube, focusing primarily around the infamous hamlet of Goldshire, and the road leading into Stormwind. The video was posted on the official World of Warcraft subreddit, and it wouldn’t have been complete without the Elwynn Forest theme playing in the background.
Elwynn Forest and the other Human starting zones (such as Westfall, Redridge Mountains, and Duskwood) have often been the subject of fan-made remasters, and theWorld of Warcraftcommunity as a whole annually clamors for an official revamp from Blizzard Entertainment. While the old zones of Azeroth haven’t been updated wholesale since the release ofCataclysmin 2010, there have been a lot of rumors and datamined assets that confirm the developers have at least toyed with the idea throughout the years.
The existence of atime skip inWorld of Warcraft: Dragonflightcertainly paves the way for a proper remaster of Azeroth in the near future, though the addition of Chromie Time inShadowlandshas at least fixed the most egregious continuity clashes in theWorld of Warcraftleveling experience.
As forValheim, Iron Gate Studio continues to support the Early Access title with regular updates across all platforms, as it has steadily accumulated over five million copies sold on Steam. The developers plan to add a plethora ofnew content toValheimin 2023, such as the upcoming Ashlands biome. Though many players believe that a full release ofValheimis still at least a year away, Early Access provides a complete experience for fans of the survival genre, and its modding community continues to elevate that experience further.
Valheimis available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
