It’s no secret that the bigger the development company, the more difficult it can be to keep secrets under wraps. Rumors about upcoming projects can be juicy nuggets that keep the gaming world guessing, and Bethesda is no stranger to it. Just recently, rumors began to fly abouta possible release date for its upcoming space RPGStarfield. Now, it looks as though someone may have dropped the ball about a possible newFalloutgame.
In an interview conducted a few days ago, Dan Becker, Xbox’s head of gaming services, spoke about some upcoming projects including new IPs. While throwing out a number of examples, such asHaloandForza, Becker also dropped the nameFalloutinto the mix. Nothing more was said about it, in fact it seems as though it was glossed over, so at this early stage, it’s impossible to tell whether this is referring to a new game in the series.

The interview was largely conducted around a discussion involving the Xbox Game Pass. Much of the talk focused on the gamers who have been using the service, but Becker, or the interviewer, seems to have also used it as an opportunity to bring up new titles that are imminent. WithMicrosoft buying Bethesda recently, there’s a clear link between what Becker has said about a potential newFalloutgame and the company’s connections to its developer.
Of course, this could have been a slip-up, or he could have been talking about new content forFallout 76. But the fact that it was mentioned in a discussion about new games is arguably quite interesting. However, Bethesda is already hard at work withStarfield, so this suggests that if there is a newFalloutgame, it’s unlikely to be for the foreseeable future, although the company’s past release schedule for the games indicates that now is roughly the time that a new installment would ideally be due for release, or at least in heavy development.
It’s worth noting that Bethesda is also knee-deep inElder Scrolls 6. Once again, rumors continue to fly about their flagshipElder Scrollsseries. The fact that Becker name-droppedFalloutin the interview is not a strong indicator that one is being worked on. But of course, this will not stop people from indulging in the accidental leak. There is no doubt thatFalloutwill continue to have new titles in the franchise, so Becker’s words could arguably get the ball rolling in determining whether or not work has already begun on it.
