Summary
One fan recently had a clever idea for how to make Amber inThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdombetter. They subsequently presented their suggestion on social media, prompting some insightful discussion among theTears of the Kingdomfandom.
As was the case withBreath of the Wild, there’s not that manyways to use Amber inTears of the Kingdom. But seeing how this fossilized resin is one of the most common drops that players can obtain from destroying ore veins, it doesn’t take long to build up a sizable Amber stack in the game.

Reflecting on that state of affairs, Reddit user ArchieBaldukeIII recently shared an idea that would make Amber much more useful, all the while keeping in line with the rest of the game’s mechanics. Namely, the fan suggested that fusing Amber to weapons should create Eightfold Blades, or similar types of swords with wind effects. Elaborating on that notion, the player explained thatevery other mineral inTears of the Kingdomalready bestows elemental effects to weapons upon fusion, positing that it’s strange how Amber doesn’t follow suit.
What’s more, weapons with wind effects are the only class of elemental armaments that cannot be created using Link’s Fuse ability and instead need to be found acrossTears of the Kingdom’smap of Hyrule. ArchieBaldukeIII labeled that as another oddity that strengthens their argument in favor of making Amber a wind weapon component.
While the idea prompted some speculation among the fandom about whether Nintendo once intended to actually infuse Amber with wind elements, many have dismissed that notion. One player pointed to the description ofTears of the Kingdom’sAmber Earringsas evidence that the developers have long planned to make Amber an elementally neutral mineral. For context, the game states that this accessory “harnesses the power of the land to increase defense.” Meanwhile, the descriptions of all other types of earrings mention the elemental effects of their core materials by, e.g., associating Diamonds with light and Rubies with fire.
The chances that Nintendo changes the way Amber works inTears of the Kingdomare slim. In fact, it’s still unclear whether the latestZeldagame will receive any notable additions moving forward, as Nintendo has yet to confirm that post-launch content is actually in the works. Since the expansion pass forBreath of the Wildwas originally unveiled just two months into its release, many were hoping thatTears of the Kingdomwould continue that pattern. However, that hasn’t come to pass, seeing how theBreath of the Wildsequel is currently mere days away from its three-month anniversary.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomis available on Nintendo Switch.
